One day, Mr Herbert and Josie the farmers decided that they would cut the grass.
Mr Herbert was cutting the grass and he heard a “Ssssss” and a snake came out of the grass.
“Hello Little snake,” said Mr Herbert, “go inside the house and meet Josie.” So the snake went inside.
There was a roaring fire and Josie was drinking some tea.
Then Mr Herbert carried on cutting the grass. He saw a trail and found a snail. “Go inside snail and meet Josie.” The snail went inside, saw a snake and Josie with a roaring fire.
After a while, Mr Herbert stopped for a break, then went on mowing the grass. He heard a “Quack quack” and a duck appeared.
“Go inside and warm yourself up,” said Mr Herbert “I’ll go inside too.”
So the two of them went home. They met Josie, the snake and the snail.
“Hello Josie.” said Mr Herbert.
“Hello.” said Josie
“I love these animals.” said Mr.Herbert and Josie together.
“They’re sweet aren’t they?” said Mr Herbert.
“Yes they are,” said Josie. “Shall we give the duck some bread, the snail a leaf and the snake some grass?”
“Ok.” said Mr Herbert.
They gave them some food.
After the animals had finished, which had taken them three minutes, Mr Herbert made the duck a pond and the snake a little shelter outside in the garden with some grass inside. Josie made the snail a special hedge. They showed the homes to the animals. The animals were pleased with their homes, especially the duck. The animals went around exploring their new homes. Mr Herbert mostly had made the homes.
The duck thanked Josie by giving her a feather. The snaked thanked Mr Herbert by tickling him and the snail thanked them by keeping slime off the floor.
Most of the time the animals spent their time in their homes and sometimes they were let inside by Mr Herbert or Josie.
They loved it in their homes. It was just perfect for them all. Everyday they were allowed to go inside to drink and get some food. The drink and food that they had made them strong and healthy.
They named the duck, the snail and the snake. The duck was called Jaow, the snake was called Emily and the snail was called Lucy. The animals loved their names alot and also Mr Herbert, Josie, their homes, their drink and food.
They loved everything except for bad things.
They were all friends and they were all special. They all mattered. No one mattered more. No one was better at art. They were always as good as each other. They were as good as gold. They had grown to love each other and didn’t want to live somewhere else.
Which was good because they didn’t have to.
They made no fuss and lived happily together with peace and quiet.
And that’s the tale of the animals.
