I milked a cow!

Filed Under (Journal) by Verona on 31-03-2009

I went to the farm yesterday and cleaned out the rabbits, fed the sheep, mucked out the hen house, hunted for eggs, then I asked if I was allowed to milk Primrose, their big black cow!

When we got to Primrose, B got the milk flowing and then I had a go. I was rather good at it!

Thin milk came out into the bowl because I worked busily with my small, deft fingers. When all the milk was out we took it back to the farm and filtered it through a cloth into a clean bottle.

Then Mummy came and I went for my swimming lesson before going home for tea. At swimming I was practising front crawl, scull and breaststroke. I’m very excited because soon I’m going to be able to start trampolining lessons too. You have to be eight to do that and now I am old enough!

I won a blog award!

the lemonade award for a great attitude!

Poppy from A Life Less Simple sent me a blog award! Mummy explained that it’s for people who show gratitude or have a wonderful attitude!

I’m supposed to nominate people from other blogs to share the award with, but I don’t know anyone with a blog, so I would like to share this award with poor people who do not live in this country. These people have lots of things to worry about but they care about each other more than things like we do.

I would also like to share this award with my friend John. He makes me laugh and spends lots of time with people giving them Reiki when he could be spending time thinking about himself instead.

Planting potatoes

Filed Under (Journal) by Verona on 29-03-2009

Mummy joined the potato council’s potatoes for schools scheme and today I planted my potatoes!

We had 2 rocket potatoes and 2 vale emerald potatoes to try.

This is how to plant potatoes.

1- Dig the soil in a sunny spot:

2- Pull out all the weeds:

3- Dig a hole for each potato, about 12 inches apart from each other and put one potato in each hole with their sprouts pointing upwards:

4- Cover with soil to make the potatoes warm and cosy and whisper secret words to them to make them grow:

5- Water:

I’m growing some other things too. I was allowed to choose my own seeds and I’ve chosen six things:
peas
radishes
baby sweetcorn
mint
cucumber
cress

I’ll be planting those over the next two weeks. Please tell me if you are growing anything this year!
