An afternoon at the farm

I went to Poppy’s farm on Friday. I began with cleaning out the rabbits and suddenly something exciting happened! I had an important job to do - I had to take a message to the farm because one of the goats was kidding.

I ran to the farm to deliver my urgent message then went back quickly because I wanted to see the goat being born. As I approached the shed I could hear the mother goat calling - I realised she was talking to her new baby. I had just missed the birth!

I went in and saw the tiny brown and white kid whose mother was licking it to clean him and welcome him to the world. I was allowed to touch the kid, it was still wet and I noticed how long its brown ears were; they almost dragged on the floor.

Soon everyone else gathered round to say hello to the new goat and congratulate the mother. Everyone was happy.

Poppy’s Mum felt the mother goats belly to see if she was going to have twins; she wasn’t so we left her alone to feed and clean her baby.

After that, it was back to work; I finished cleaning out the rabbits, collected chicken and duck eggs, fed the sheep and gave two orphaned lambs their bottles.

My eighth Birthday

Playing with my new dolls house

Playing with my new dolls house

On Wednesday it was my Birthday. I was eight.

I was very excited and the first thing I did was open my main present which was a dolls house. I played with it for the morning before going to the jacuzzi and swimming pool at Whitemead. It was a sunny day and the water was warm. When we got into the jacuzzi and then went back into the pool it felt cooler because we had been in a warm place for so long.

After our swim we had a picnic in their playarea. For my picnic I had ham sandwiches, crisps and two pieces of peppermint chocolate. It was really yummy and I watched the birds fluttering by as I ate. I heard seagulls calling above me; so I imagined I was at the seaside on a summer’s day.

At the play area there were swings, a slide, a wooden train, a swinging cockerel and a climbing tower. I really enjoyed going on the slide, although I went very slowly because my crocs stuck to the slide!

I enjoyed my play, then Mum called happily “Time to go home, darling!”. I went home feeling excited because we were picking up my friend after school. We picked her up, went to Beechenhurst and had a play, pretending that we were poor and all we had was a horse and a small hut with a river flowing on top. My friend made a pretend toilet and I made a chain for it!

Soon a big gust of wind blew over the smell of the barbeque that Mummy was cooking and we ran over towards the delicious smell just as Mum called us to eat. We sat down as the wind ruffled our hair and ate our warm hot dogs while one or two birds came down to see what we were eating.

At home, Mummy prepared the candles for my Birthday cake; they were pink with white stripes. Daddy put out seven, forgetting I was eight, so Mummy had to find another one. Then I took my presents over to the table. My friend and I sat down and everyone sang to me. I blew out all the candles at once, and I opened my presents as I ate.

I had some clothes, a duvet set, sweets and a flashing badge. I let my friend open some of my presents and cards as she is my very best friend. Then we went outside and climbed trees. We then played a game which we love playing. We lived at a bakers and we cooked stew and chocolate cake for everyone. We found leaves, buds, sweet smelling dark grass and pieces of hedge. My friend put them in my stew and I stirred it around.

We went inside because it was cold as we were not dressed very warmly. The wind blew strongly that day, even though the sun was out. We went to my room and played mermaids, then we played pirates. We then went back outside into the dark with my pink torch. We climbed my tree and my friend suddenly said she had found a rat in the tree. We both went down to see and my friend asked for my torch. I couldn’t find it, so I kicked the rat and we suddenly realised it was my torch; which I was looking for and my friend thought was a rat!

We bounced on the trampoline, watching the dark shadows creeping in on us. It got a bit creepy, so we went back indoors.  Soon the doorbell rang and my friend had to go home. Mum gave her her party bag; inside there was a Rainbow magic book, a piggy pencil case and a small set of pencils with some Birthday cake.

I came into the house, skipped through the hall and said it was the best Birthday I had ever had. I still felt a bit hungry so ate one last piece of my Birthday cake. Yawning sleepily, I went to bed to dream happy Birthday dreams.

My front tooth!

my pretty gap

my pretty gap

Last night at 10pm I lost my front tooth! It was wobbly for a very long time and I was getting annoyed that it hadn’t come out yet.

I got up suddenly because it felt so wobbly at about 9:30pm. I felt scared that I might swallow it if I fell asleep. I wobbled it a bit and then twisted it around and it was hanging on by one corner.

I gave it a sharp tug and POP! it came out …

I went up to my Mum and Dad’s bedroom because I was so excited about it. Mummy offered me a hug because I looked a bit pale and Daddy said congratulations.

I took my tooth down to our nature table, which is a special place in our house where we celebrate the seasons. I thought my tooth might get lost if I put it underneath my pillow; although I expect the fairies would find it because they are so small.

In the morning I came down and found two 20p and one 10p, a note from the fairies and a packet of sugar free sweets. I put the note in my pink pot where I keep all my notes from the fairies so they don’t get lost, ate the sweets before breakfast (naughty naughty!) and put the money in my piggy bank.

Mummy wanted a special photo of me with my pretty gap, so Daddy took one of us.
