Today I went to a different farm. I was going to help out because A is going to have a baby soon and needed some help lifting and carrying things.
I went along in my waterproofs and met an American girl there who was also helping out. First of all we fed some lambs that needed bottles - they were quite big and some of them drank 2 1/2 bottles of milk!
Then we went and collected eggs. I collected over 50 and they filled 3 buckets. I climbed up into a haystack and found one egg at the top!
A’s son helped collect the eggs and he got a few in his bucket too. He is only 3, so he did really well.
We filled up the chicken’s water and then got the sheep in for the night. I had to shake a bucket of food to get them to come in, and when they came I put their food into their trough.
Then mummy and daddy came to collect me. I was very hungry and had potatoes, sweetcorn and pilchards for tea.
Last summer I decided that I wanted my bedroom decorated blue with pictures of dolphins, fish, whales and sharks on my wall.
Daddy said it could be done in January if I could keep my room tidy.
January came and we hardly made any changes to my room at all. I was a bit annoyed with Daddy, but it was because I had not kept things tidy, so this month I decided that he ought to make a start.
Last week we got some soda crystals and began scrubbing the walls. I had drawn on them with wax crayons and felt tip pens, so they were very messy and scribbly. I worked away at a small corner next to my curtains while Daddy cleaned one whole wall. I think the place where I was cleaning was meant to be a big black lake and one of my friends had written our names on the wall.
Daddy was working away on lots of different coloured grass, a cat which was orange, some scribbles and faces and a dragon which Mummy had drawn.
This morning Daddy worked on an area above my wardrobe while I worked on the same patch as yesterday.
We are going to carry this week and I’m very excited about the work we have done so far.
I was reading my Brownie annual and saw some nice recipes. One was for pasta salad and one was for cheesy bread. I asked Mummy to make them for me but she said I could make them myself!
I had to check the cupboards for all the ingredients and wrote down anything we didn’t have on my own shopping list.
I had to buy tomatoes, a pepper and a tin of sweetcorn. We already had the other ingredients. Mummy gave me the money and I put the things in my basket and paid for them.
When I got home Mummy cooked the pasta for me while I did everything else. Here is how to make pasta salad:
1 Chop 1 stick celery, 8 cherry tomatoes and half a pepper (we had to buy 3 big tomatoes instead because we don’t like to use plastic packaging that cherry tomatoes come in):
making pasta - first chop the vegetables
2 Put them in a bowl with 2 tbsp sweetcorn and add the cooked, cold pasta. I added some fennel and mint from the garden too.:
Add sweetcorn and pasta to vegetables
3 Mix in 2 tbsp mayonnaise - I used garlic and chive dip instead and Mummy mixed some cream in it which made it taste yummy:
mix in the mayonnaise or dressing
4 All done! Next week I’m going to make cheesy bread. Tell me what your favourite recipe is and I might try it!
