I watched the Bridge to Terrebithia and wanted Daddy to build me a rope swing over our stream like the one in the film. One sunny afternoon he decided we should do it.
I was so excited. First Daddy had to climb up a big tree and throw down the rope for me to catch on the other side:

Daddy is as good at climbing as I am. Next I had to learn how to do a rolling hitch knot:

Then I put a piece of wood through the knot to sit on:

Then it was ready to try. I wanted to do it, but Daddy said it was safer if he tried first. Mummy thought the branch would break, but Daddy said it was strong. Here goes:

A loud crack and a big splash and I think Mummy was right. Never mind; we’ll have to try again another day because Daddy got very cold and wet! I helped him out and we took him home for a hot shower!

Mummy and Daddy helped me make a rain meter. I’ve been learning about clouds and because I want to be a farmer I need to know all about the weather and how much rain we get. Here is how to make a rain gauge.
1- Get Daddy to cut the top off a 2litre plastic bottle with a sharp pair of scissors:

2- put some gravel, stones or marbles in the bottom to stop the bottle blowing away:

3- Tape the top of the bottle inside the bottom of the bottle to make a funnel:

4- Put a sticker on the side of the bottle with the bottom of it level with the stones. Then put water in it, up to the zero mark. The sticker is marked at inch intervals so I can see how much rain we have:

5- All done. Now all you do is put the meter somewhere away from where the trees or house can stop the rain going in. Although I like sunny days, I’m looking forward to checking my rain meter!
