Me, Mummy and Daddy in the autumn sun
Last week Mummy wanted to go and collect elderberries, but when we got there, the farmer had cut back all the hedges and the berries had been cut away too!
We went for a long walk up the hill instead and I found some chestnuts. So we didn’t come home empty handed, I came home with a tin of chestnuts instead which I’m going to eat the next time we have a fire.

Trying to see our house with Daddy from the top of the hill

Running down the hill as fast as I can

A cute bat I made at RSPB Wildlife explorer
Last night I went to my first RSPB explorers club! We’re going to meet once a month and yesterday we went on a bat hunt through the woods.
There were lots of us there. We started with looking for 20 bat stickers around the room; I found them all! Then we played games and had to say whether bat facts were true or false. I learned that bats are not blind and that they are mammals and all about vampire bats.
Then we went for a walk using a detector. We couldn’t see the bats because it got too dark, but we could hear them with our detector - we knew they were in a tree above our heads because they made a noise.
We came back inside and I made this bat. Next time we have to take torches to go on a fungus hunt.

Looking for hawthorn berries on my seeds and berries hunt
We’ve searched for sounds, colours and now seeds and berries! It was a bit early to find much but we found these:

- Hawthorn berries
- Rowan berries

We’re going to keep hunting over the next few weeks because I’m looking out for these so I can tick them off my Nature Detectives sheet:

- Ivy
- Hazel
- Alder
- Ash
- Beech
- Horse chestnuts
- Silver birch
