Carving squash and tree dressing

My carved gourd

My carved gourd

This week at Wildlife watch we carved a squash to hang in a tree as a lantern. Today I wanted to do another one so I had a go by myself. Mummy cut the mouth and eyes but I did everything else including cutting through the squash in half.

I ate my tea with my squash lantern on the table instead of using lights. The best bit about my tea was Mummy used the squash flesh to make my pudding - she made yummy scones!

Tomorrow I’m going to finger knit a long piece of wool so I can hang my lantern in a tree and we’re going to do some tree dressing. I want to do tree dressing to say thank you to all the pretty trees, especially now they are changing colour. I like climbing and sitting in trees and like eating things that they give me too.

We found a pink wild flower on our colour hunt

We found a pink wild flower on our colour hunt

After our sound safari this week we went on a colour hunt! We visit May Hill to see if we could find different colours. I took my basket and collected things for autumn too.

We found

hawthorn berries

Rowan berries

stones

tree trunks

sky

fungi

wild flower

bracken

grass

grass seed head

tree rust

In my basket I collected different coloured leaves to make a collage. There weren’t that many red leaves yet, so I am going to keep collecting over the next two weeks.
