My clay mushroom and worksheet

My clay mushroom and worksheet

I went on a fungi hunt with the RSPB Explorers club at the Nagshead Reserve.

We did an experiment with some bread. At the end of the last meeting we put one clean slice of bread into a plastic bag. Then we put a slice of bread that someone had breathed onto in another plastic bag. Then we put a piece of bread that had been rubbed on the floor into another plastic bag. A fourth piece of bread had been rubbed on someone’s shoe and put into another plastic bag!

We looked at them this week and they had all gone mouldy. The clean piece of bread had the least mould on. The one that had been breathed on had the next least mould on. The one that had been rubbed on someone’s shoe had more mould on it and the one that had been rubbed on the floor was the most mouldy.

We had to find some mushrooms then an expert told us what they were called. I saw a common puffball. After that we coloured in a picture of a mushroom and labelled it with cap, ring, gills and stem. Then I made a model puffball out of clay to bring home.

Some of the mushrooms have funny names and dead man’s fingers grows in the water as well as on land.

I enjoyed going outside to look for the mushrooms because I like being outside in the dark with my torch.

Kelly; my new butterfly

Kelly; my new butterfly

Kelly is my new butterfly; she is a red admiral. I found her outside on my Wendy House. As it is autumn I knew she would die outside so I took her into my house.

I have made her a little pen out of some wooden boxes with some torn paper to sleep on, a tiny cactus plant, a torch for warmth and light and a small pot of honeyed water.

She is really pretty and I’m glad I found her. She likes sitting on me and I carry her around with me. The she sticks out her long tongue and I take her to her honeyed water for a drink.

Stiring in money and making a wish with my Christmas Pudding

Mummy found out that today was Sir it up Sunday, so we made me a Christmas pudding. I asked her to put in some money. She put in 2 ten pences and I put in one. We each made a wish and stirred it.

I will tell you my wish if it comes true, but I can’t tell you now otherwise it won’t come true! I can tell you a secret though; Mummy put cocoa powder into the pudding to make a chocolatey one!
