At 1pm the phone rang. I had just finished lunch and was reading a book called ‘The illustrated mum’. Mummy came in and said “We have to hurry. You have to get dressed straight away with a warm jumper, wellies and waterproofs!”
I wondered what was going on, and Mummy told me that one of the Ewes at Poppy’s farm was giving birth to her babies. If we hurried up, I might make it in time to see them being born!
I got ready in 20 seconds and lept into the car.
When we arrived, Flatty the ewe was eating grass, then she laid down and pushed a bit and then got up and wandered off! It didn’t look like she was going to lamb after all. I felt a bit disappointed, but we went inside and had something to eat.
When we came back out, it started to rain, so we bought Flatty into a polytunnel to keep her warm. She came out of the polytunnel and was exploring around the farm. Eventually she settled in the polytunnel in the most awkward place of all. She squeezed herself in between things so that we couldn’t get to her very well.
She took a long time to have her babies and we didn’t think they would come at all. Eventually she needed
some help to have her lambs. T had to pull them out, but Flatty didn’t seem to mind. Flatty had a black boy and a white girl at 6pm and one of the lambs had their leg behind them which is why Flatty couldn’t push them out by herself.
It took such a long time, but I didn’t mind waiting because I really wanted to see her give birth. Next time I would like it if the sheep can do it on her own, rather than having to have help. The lambs are very cute and happy and like to be cuddled.
After that I had to start on my farm work - we still had all the jobs to do. So I went home very tired, ready for a hot bath, something to eat and bed.

Oh you’re so lucky.
We are so wanting to see the lambs being born but not yet had a chance.
xx
Wow, that sounds great, my little girl would love to see lambs being born.
I love your blog, the artwork is fantastic.
So far all of the ewe’s who have had their lambs without needing any help have just got on and done it without us knowing about it until we find them with their lambs this year but I’m sure you will get to see an unaided birth at soon point.
I have put an award for you on my blog, see you soon, Poppy
How lovely! I took my little girls (2 & 3) to see some lambs being born - we were not as lucky as you as we just missed it.
We did see the newborns cuddling their mummies which was lovely and the girls wanted to bring them home!
What a fantastic blog - you are very creative - I am currently working on a project for our local council to hold a World War 2 themed play day - if you have any ideas - let me know!

Wow! As you say, ‘how exciting!’ You were very lucky to be at that birth - and twins as well. Have the lambs got names yet?
I’m sure the ewe was very pleased to have your help and will think you are a very special ‘aunty’ to her babies. You must be doing a great job at that farm.
Lucky you! I’m a big grown up Mama and I still haven’t had the opportunity to see a Lamb being born. My girls would love to have been there too.
I can’t wait to see the Lambs jumping and leaping in the fields near us.
hello Becks!
I felt lucky too and I hope you get chance to see lambs being born soon.
Hello Michelle,
do you have a favourite picture on my blog? I hope your little girls gets to see lambs being born too. how old is she?
Hi Poppy,
thank you very much for my award, I really like it! Look forward to seeing you next Monday.
Hi Michelle,
What a shame your girls missed the birth. perhaps they will be able to see some lambs being born another time.
I think your world war II play theme sounds interesting.
I think children like to play most with their imaginations; that’s what I like to do. And mummy said that during that time children HAD to use their imaginations because there weren’t many toys around.
Daddy talked about finger knitting or using cotton reels for knitting and having a competition for the longest scarf!
I like drawing, so I would do something to do with drawing at the play day.
Hello Grandma,
The lambs have not yet got names. Maybe I will be a good aunty to the lambs although I’m a human!
Hello Natalie,
I expect you will be able to see a lamb being born soon, and I hope you will. We can see quite a lot of sheep and lambs jumping in the fields near us
Hi Verona
I LOVE your artwork!! It’s so colourful and vibrant! I wish I had such an eye for colour as you have - I’m 37 and I still enjoy painting but my pictures are never as colourful and joyful to look at as yours! I wish you lived nearer to me then you could show me how to paint the way you do!
Please share some more of your lovely pictures - I feel so happy looking at them!

Dear Arlette, I’ll be putting some more pictures up before the end of next month. I need Daddy to help me with the scanner, so it takes a long time. I’ll be putting up my 2009 gallery.
I expect that your pictures are very good, it’s just that the people who draw them don’t think they are so good!
Thank you for your comment and I’m glad my bright pictures make you feel happy.
