Mummy and Daddy helped me make a rain meter. I’ve been learning about clouds and because I want to be a farmer I need to know all about the weather and how much rain we get. Here is how to make a rain gauge.
1- Get Daddy to cut the top off a 2litre plastic bottle with a sharp pair of scissors:
2- put some gravel, stones or marbles in the bottom to stop the bottle blowing away:
3- Tape the top of the bottle inside the bottom of the bottle to make a funnel:
4- Put a sticker on the side of the bottle with the bottom of it level with the stones. Then put water in it, up to the zero mark. The sticker is marked at inch intervals so I can see how much rain we have:
5- All done. Now all you do is put the meter somewhere away from where the trees or house can stop the rain going in. Although I like sunny days, I’m looking forward to checking my rain meter!

Wow, that looks great -I’ll have to help my daughter Grace make one when she’s a bit older. Thank you for the instructions.
Hope it rains soon for you!

Hello Verona,
i am Hannah and i’m nearly 5. I love your blog and i am saving up to buy a farm too. I have a money box and a bank account and want an organic farm when i’m grown up.
I am going to make the rain meter like you made because it looks really interesting. Love from Hannah.
What a great idea!
Make sure you remember to let us know how much it rains next time it does - I think there is some forecast for next week.

Hi broken man’s wife, I think your name is rather funny but I like it. We had a little bit of rain the last few days and my rain gauge went up a bit. I hope your daughter Grace will enjoy her rain gauge when she makes it!
To Hannah, isn’t it exciting that we are both going to have a farm. I hope you save up lots of money and can have it soon. I’m trying to save enough money for when I’m 15. So far I’ve got about £134. How much do you have?
To Poppy, I am glad that there will be some rain for next week because my potatoes need watering. I hope you don’t mind me writing about you and your farm on my blog. Look forward to seeing you soon!

Dear Verona, yes it is exciting - i’m looking forward to being a farmer. I have £65 in my bank account and 2 piggy banks with lots of change. I will get some more next month when it’s my birthday. I like to read Sophie stories by Dick King-Smith because she is going to be a lady farmer too. From Hannah xx
To Hannah,
Thank you for writing on my blog. I hope you have a good Birthday. I used to read the Sophie stories and that’s how I got my idea of wanting to be a farmer. I’m very excited because tomorrow I’m going to go and help someone on an organic farm, collecting the eggs and feeding the chickens. Also, Mummy is going to find out about the young farmers association.
We love reading your blog.
